If you saw the movie Catch Me If You Can, you know that Frank Abagnale made crime highly appealing, at least until he was caught. Or maybe that was just Leo DiCaprio.

Whatever, the movie was a smash hit and now they’ve made it into a musical. I’m not exactly sure why, but the jazzy, pop, early rock music from the time period makes me think this could work. After all, John McDaniel is the music director and he has an excellent track record with broadway musicals. This show kicks off the season for the 5th Avenue Theatre.

If you really aren’t familiar with Catch Me If You Can here’s the official blurb for the musical:

“A precocious teenager with a SILVER tongue, Frank Abagnale posed as a Pan Am pilot, a doctor and a lawyer…and made off with millions! His remarkable true story, based on the DreamWorks motion picture, now comes to thrilling new life on the stage. Created by the Tony Award-winning team who brought us Hairspray, this truly promises to be the theatrical event of the season.”

Catch Me If You Can runs at the 5th Avenue Theatre from July 23 through August 16 and tickets went on sale today (Thursday, June 11).
