If your dream world includes being stuffed full of ribs and covered with BBQ sauce, drinking beer on the sidewalk, all while listening to a wide range of talented musicians, then this weekend your utopia awaits. Ribfest, the yearly festival celebrating the tender meat on bone delicacy, happens this weekend at the apex of Lincoln, Irving Park, and Damen.

Three days of finger lickin’ goodness awaits you, with an average of 65,000 pounds of ribs being served. And as you browse your way from rib to rib, you can text your vote for the Best Ribs of 2009. Not a meat on the bone fan? No worries. Some of the other offerings at the festival include pulled pork sandwiches, mini burgers, shish kabobs, a typical sampling of summer festival foods such as corn on the cob, hot dogs, and funnel cake, and ethnic fair from Mexican and Thai food to Polish sausage, pierogi, and potato pancakes. Not a meat eater and worried you’ll be stuck eating French fries all afternoon? Fear not, Delicious Café will be serving up seitan ribs and cornbread for the non-carnivore crowd.

Although the ribs might be the namesake, the solid line-up of bands is another draw of Ribfest. On Friday you’ve got the reemergence of local heroes Office, who’s latest album Mecca was full of shimmering pop gems. Saturday headlining the South Stage is the pumping electro duo Walter Meego, and on the North Stage Margot and the Nuclear So & So’s. And to wrap the weekend up you’ve got the poppy Midwest sweethearts Someone Still Loves You Boris Yeltsin and Annuals. The musical offerings are dosing out a lot of sunny and sweet indie rock all weekend at Ribfest.

Ribfest is Friday June 12th from 5-10pm and Saturday June 13th and Sunday June 14th from Noon to 10pm. You can enter the festival at Lincoln Avenue and Irving Park Road, and there is a suggested $5 donation that will help fund community activities, area greening efforts, and local outreach programs.
