The Beastie Boys, Coldplay, Tool and some five dozen other acts will perform over a three-day weekend July 31 to August 2, 2009 at Liberty State Park, in the shadow of the Statue of Liberty, a year after the first annual All Points West Music and Arts Festival proved that New Jersey could have its own Bonnaroo and Coachella, attracting some 75,000 people. Ok, it was no Woodstock – but in many ways that was a good thing: There wasn’t as much mud (though it did rain), and there was concern for the environment – people could bring emptied bottles and cans to a tent and exchange them for merchandise. This year there is going to be a dance tent too, and comedy acts.
Friday July 31 – Beastie Boys and 20 other groups including Yeah Yeah Yeahs, Q-Tip, MSTRKRFT, CollegeHumor Live
Saturday, August 1 – Tool and 22 other groups including Arctic Monkeys, Gogol Bordello and The Ting Tings
Sunday, August 2 – Coldplay and Janeane Garofalo, Michael Showalter, MGMT, the Black Keys and 15 more
Liberty State Park is a ferry ride from downtown Manhattan, and also accessible by PATH – which is quieter, quicker, cheaper, and cleaner than the subway – and then a really cool light rail ride.
This is not an inexpensive experience – right now they are selling single day passes for $89 and three-day passes for $199 “plus applicable service fees.â€
