Appropriately enough, the 46th annual Colorado Scottish Festival and Rocky Mountain Highland Games will take place in Highlands Ranch at Highlands Heritage Park, August 8th and 9th.
For $15 (children and seniors $12; Under 7: Free) you can see massed pipes and drums along with a Parade of Clans each day at noon along with plenty of Celtic music– a Celtic Music Extravaganza will break out on Saturday night– a Genealogy Tent, Irish step dancing (huh?), mounds of Scottish food and drink (yes, there will be a Haggis tasting) and of course lots of competitors throwing rocks and tree trunks in the air.
There’s also something called a “Hammered Dulcimer Competition.” I’ve determined that a dulcimer is a stringed musical instrument though I’ve yet to figure out whether “hammered” refers to the dulcimer or to the people who will be playing the dulcimer. Perhaps both?
