Philadelphia is a city that has music in it’s blood. So it’s only natural for it to be a town with a lot of hot dance floors. and to paraphrase the Tings Tings, it is a town that has more than one “Great DJ”. Here’s a look at the top places to go when you’re looking to get down.

The Barbary – It used to be an eclectic punk club, and it still has the same punk rock decor. But when it closed down DJ John Redden (otherwise known as JHN RDN to the Philly club scene) became the first DJ and party promoter of his generation to own a club. and now it has plenty of hot dance parties, as well as great concerts courtesy of R5 Productions. every Monday Spank Rock hooks up the Jang House, while every Wednesday has a 50’s punk and 60’s surf guitar night called Bouffant Bangout. but you also best check out monthly parties like the Reggae and Soul filled Ten Commandments, the always intense Turnaround VS Immediate, and DJ Deejay’s Michael Madonna Prince party! The Barbary

Fluid Nightclub – Ever since it’s early roots Fluid has always been a hot place to dance. But then again it has also had the likes of Josh Wink, Questlove?, and DJ Jazzy Jeff working the turntables on a regular basis. Overall the majority of it’s dance nights are very hip hop and house music oriented. But it also likes to switch it up with the new wave driven Sex Dwarf (named for a song by Soft Cell) every First Friday, where DJ’s Robert Drake and Marilyn Thomas spin all of your favorites 80’s music. they also have Psydde Delicious host the punk and trash rock fueled Fast Cheap & Outta Control every Sunday. Fluid Nightclub

Woody’s – One of Philadelphia’s premiere gay bars also doubles over as a fun place to dance at night. The 1st Tuesday of every month, David P and Adam Sparkles, who are the main DJ’s behind the ever impressive Making Time party host Snacks. There’s also Shake Your Booty every Sunday, where Carl Michaels spins House music, and a $100 prize goes to the person who shakes it the best! Woodys

Kung Fu Necktie – Even though it’s hardly a year old, it’s already being recognized as being on of of the best music clubs and dive bars in the city. But it also has to hot dance parties every weekend. Billy W. and Ryan T. spin boundary break genres of music during Robotique every Friday Night. And on every Saturday night KFN is home to such legendary Philly parties as Hurrah, Broadzilla, and ROCKTITS! Kung Fu Necktie

Medusa Lounge – It’s by far the smallest of the clubs listed. But it also might just be the most bumping, and it definitely has the most creative decor since the walls are graffiti plastered shrines to Medusa. Every month it houses such great parties as Hurrah, Dollar Grillz, and Philadelphyinz. Medusa Lounge

Tommy Up – Technically it’s an honorable mention since he’s a person. But this list would be foolish not to mention his promoting efforts seeing how everything event PaperStreet does ends up being the hottest in the city. and the man has personally worked with the likes of MSTRKRFT, Brenden Bringem, Plastic Little, King Britt, and many others. whether it’s Mojito aboard the Moshulu, the event that he does at Time Lounge, or his upcoming venture, PYT Lounge, Tommy Up has his radar set to party! PaperStreet

Silk City Diner and Lounge – in it’s hey day Silk City was the place to be for good dance parties. But when Mark Bee purchased it and revamped it he might of just made them even better. Now every Thursday DJs Sammy Slice & Cool Hand Luke host Mo Money No Problems with special host and Philly hip hop artist Tuphace. and every Saturday the impressive DJ Deejay hosts the aptly titled Anything You Can Shake Your Hips To! Silk City
