Oklahoma’s official ambassadors to the world of rock (and Virgin Fest veterans), The Flaming Lips, will return to the Washington area for a show at Merriweather on August 28th. This time, in addition to the plastic bubble, animal costumes and confetti, they’ll also be bringing some exclusive tracks along with them.

According to show’s promoters at IMP, “To give fans yet another reason to check out their show at Merriweather this summer, the band is offering an exclusive EP and a live recording of the show with a ticket purchase.

There’s no info on what tracks may be featured on said EP, but it’s likely to feature a few tracks from the Lips’ forthcoming LP, Embryonic, that’s tentatively scheduled to be released in September. And, as any veteran of a Lips show can attest, the free live disc is sure to be a keeper as well.

Joining the band will be Texas post-rock wunderkinds, Explosions in the Sky, and another Oklahoma City act that just happens to be fronted by the nephew of the Lips’ Wayne Coyne, Stardeath and the White Dwarfs.
