Echo Park Lake: Second Annual Paddle Boat Regatta Makes Sunday a Funday
Being that I’m from the Northeast I expect Regatta to mean Harvard and J.Crew, popped collars and crew boats.  Happily, Echo Park Lake offers a welcome change to that tradition with a Paddle Boat Regatta in Echo Park  this Sunday at 4pm.  Also a nice change, usually other regattas start at the butt crack of dawn, luckily this one is more LA speed, you can lazily recoup from your Saturday night and head over for some outdoorsy fun in the city for a good cause.
You need a partner to sign up and know its for a good cause, as the event is a fundraiser to benefit a writing/tutoring program  826LA.  I particularly like how they note on the site that while the boats fit 2 for the race, you can fit 4 for the parading.  You can see the teams online and they look like a good time.
Echo Park Lake is a Cultural Historic Landmark and a nice place to explore. Â If you haven’s spent time down there, its one of the nicest spots in L.A. Honestly. Â Don’t let its dubious history in the 80’s (remember the movie Colors?) put you off, it’s a gem.
And if you win, you can claim your trophy (and gifts) and the title of Worlds Best Paddle Boat Racers! Â There is a VIP after-party, so if you want the fun to continue, I think you can find a way to get in.
