Urban Craft Uprising – Seattle’s largest indie craft show this weekend
These ain’t your grandma’s tea cozies. You might be able to find tea cozies at the upcoming Urban Craft Uprising, but they’d as likely be made out of feathers as anything else.
If you’ve decided to find a way to avoid all of the Seafair hoopla and still get out for a little fun, here’s your alternative. The 2009 summer Urban Craft Uprising will be held at the Seattle Center Exhibition Hall on Saturday, August 1 and Sunday, August 2, from 11:00 am to 5:00 pm both days.
“Urban Craft Uprising was started in 2004 to showcase the work of independent crafters, artists and designers. Since its beginning Urban Craft Uprising continues to be the largest indie craft show in the Pacific Northwest.”
Be sure to check out the demo booth for some pretty cool demonstrations, such as Kanzashi Flower-Making, Feltique – Felting Techniques, Sew a simple circuit: adding LEDs to fabric, Making fizzy bath balm, and more.
Thousands of people attend this show that’s put on twice a year, in summer and winter, but it’s not so big that the crowd is unbearable. You’ll find everything from jewelry and clothing to housewares and toys. The creativity of the artists is outstanding and several of them who have published will be holding book signings as well.
