Unless you’ve been living under a rock all summer, you know the giant music festival Lollapalooza sets down in Grant Park this weekend, taking over Chicago with three days of amazing music. We posted the wonderful lineup, but where do you go after the gates close and you’re still pumped full of energy and ready to get down? You head to one of the many after parties popping up around town during Lollapalooza this year!
Some of these events are free (with an RSVP), usually 21+ affairs, offer up some of the amazing artists playing the festival this weekend, and might include a hosted bar or free swag. Even if you aren’t planning on heading to Grant Park this weekend, you can still join in on the fun of Lollapalooza weekend. Here are some of our top picks for the best after parties during Lollapalooza 2009.
-DJ Sets by Passion Pit, Brazilian Girl, and Kid Color @ Berlin
Passion Pit have been the blogger darling with the release of their infectious track “Sleepyhead†and the release of their debut album Manners. The band will be on deck at the polysexual “anything goes†dance joint Berlin. Also spinning is Chicago staple Kid Color and the world music infused electro act Brazilian Girls. It’s sure to be packed, but cover will be cheap and if you want a good dance workout, this will be the place to be.
-The Hood Internet and Car Stereo (Wars) @ The Hideout
Hometown mash-up heroes grace The Hideout stage before keeping the bodies moving in Grant Park. They’ll be teaming up with Austin, TX based mash-up DJ Car Stereo (Wars), and given the reputation The Hideout has for their crazy dance floor, I’d make sure to wear comfortable shoes and get ready to get down.
-A-Trak @ Sonotheque
If you’re a fan of Kanye West, by default you’re a fan of A-Trak, the main man behind some of Kanye’s best remixes, and the DJ he takes on tour. A-Trak has many Chicago ties (his girlfriend is local hip-hop extraordinaire Kid Sister), so he’ll surely bring a wild party to Sonotheque Friday night. This even is FREE, and you must RSVP online at Imeem. And get there early; this event will be packed.
-Asics and URB Magazine Lite Brite After Party with Amazing Baby DJ set, The Hoot Internet, and Kid Cudi
Who doesn’t love the promise of an all night hosted bar and no cover? Asics and URB Magazine are going all out this weekend at Envent (344 N. Ogden), keeping the Lollapalooza party going late into the night (10pm-2am Friday and Saturday) in the West Loop. Once again, this is event is free, but you must rsvp by sending an e-mail to Chicago@urb.com And again make sure to get there early, or be prepared to wait in a long line.
-Asics and URB Magazine Lite Brite After Party with Willy Joy, Moneypenny, and Secret Guest
The second night of Asics and URB Magazine after party at Envent (344 N. Ogden) continues the promise of a hosted bar and lots of dancing. Again, this is event is free, but you must rsvp by sending an e-mail to Chicago@urb.com
-DJ sets by aAdam 12 (She Wants Revenge), Lykke Li, and The Living Things @ Debonair Social Club
A sampling of music on the decks from an indie darling, part of dark new wave duo, and some sexy rock ‘n’ rollers. Expect the hipster young crowd to pile in and dance the night away as some of their favorite acts spin late into the night. If you like to people watch, Debonair is notorious for having a few celebrities pop in during Lollapalooza, so keep your eyes peeled because you’ll never know who will stop by.
