Spotlight on Queens: Socrates Sculpture Park

0

socratesQueens is for sure the most under-appreciated borough in regards to good eats, good drinks, and of course, awesome places to hang out! It is therefore my pleasure to point out one of the coolest things in Queens (well, maybe not on hot days, although you can get a good breeze since it’s by the river), the Socrates Sculpture Park! An awesome outdoor exhibition space with ginormous (yeah, seriously big) sculptures, this little park holds a heck of a lot of fun.

From movie nights to special exhibits, hopping on the train and heading to Queens to Socrates has rarely been so rewarding. And of course, don’t forget the awesome sculptures you can run, jump and climb on, or just take pictures while picnics are had around them. You can follow the park’s weather on Twitter,

A sneak peak of what’s upcoming (from their website, the full calendar is here):

AUGUST 19 ITALY NIGHT
PRE-SHOW PERFORMANCE:
LE NOZZE DI CARLO translates literally as Carlo’s wedding. Formed for a one time only performance at an Italian friend’s wedding, the band enjoyed playing together and ended up outlasting their friend’s marriage. Le Nozze plays all types of Italian music: film, old and new pop, originals and traditional. They also work with songs in other romance languages and translations of everything from Pete Seeger to Bob Marley.

FILM: GOMORRAH
2008, 135 mins. Directed by Matteo Garrone.
With Toni Servillo. This gripping based-on-fact drama about the Italian crime underworld is both riveting and realistic. One of the most exciting Italian films in years, Gomorrah won the Grand Prix at the Cannes Film Festival. (Not rated)
