Art & Copy, real-life Mad Men
The documentary â€œArt & Copyâ€ tells the story of such real-life Mad Men (and women) as George Lois, Mary Wells, Dan Wieden, Lee Clow, Hal Riney, who were responsible for famous ad campaigns, including “Just Do It,” “I Love NY,” “Where’s the Beef?,” “Got Milk,” “Think Different.â€
The film opens Friday, August 21st at the IFC Center in New York City (with some of the filmmakers present), the Music Box Theater in Chicago, Starz Film Center in Denver and Northwest Film Forum in Seattle.
Lee Clow, surfer and chairman and chief creative officer of TBWA WorldwideChiatDay, has been largely responsible for Apple’s ad campaigns since 1984, including the iPod. He is one of the ad men interviewed.
In picture above, the real-life counterparts are Jeff Goodby, who created the phrase “Got Milk?” and Mary Wells, sometimes called “the First Woman of Advertising,” known for her campaigns for Alka-Seltzer, Braniff Airlines, and “I Love NY.”
