Silver Spring Zombie Walk 2009 and Halloween on Screen at AFI

From fiction to fashion to mathematical theorems, it is (very, very un)safe to say that zombies are all the rage in 2009 and DC area residents now have two opportunities to get in on all the brain-craving fun, just in time for Halloween.

Saturday, October 24th will mark the 2nd Annual Silver Spring Zombie Walk and, while the final details have yet to be sorted out, last year’s festivities kicked off at the Quarry House Tavern and saw some two hundred faux flesh eaters shamble down Georgia Avenue at dusk. Start prepping that fake blood, tattered suits and rotting ligament gait now. Plus, this year’s “Thriller” reenactment should be especially appropriate, so expect a run Jheri curl kits and red leather jackets.

Much like the previous year’s celebration of all things undead, the night will be capped off with screening at the AFI Silver Theatre as part of their Halloween on Screen film festival. This year’s pick is Shaun of the Dead and, if you’ve never seen that hilarious flick, the entire concept of a Zombie Walk is probably lost on you anyway. (Not to mention that you’ll be horribly unprepared when the real zombie apocalypse does arrive. You’ve been warned.)
