Def Comedy Jam Producer Gives DC “Laffs on the Harbor”

The original producer of HBO’s Def Comedy Jam, Bob Sumner, is bringing stand-up back the nation’s capital in a big way with Laffs on the Harbor – a new, weekly comedy showcase at Bobby McKey’s Dueling Piano Bar in National Harbor that begins on Tuesday, September 8th.

Sumner – who’s responsible for discovering Dave Chappelle, Martin Lawrence, Bernie Mac and Chris Tucker, among many, many others – is looking to give the DC comedy scene a new breeding ground with Laffs and expects the “local elite, professional athletes, celebrities and VIPs [to be] in attendance” on opening night.

For those not in the know, the show’s venue, Bobby McKey’s, is a cocktail bar on Prince George’s County’s fledgling National Harbor waterfront that features nightly live shows with – you guessed it – dueling pianos. According to Sumner, even they will be involved in the show and “create a soulful perspective which has never been seen or done before.” And how: Laffs on the Harbor will mark the bar’s first foray into comedy and is planned to go down on the first Tuesday on every month.
