As part of the popular and eclectic City Arts & Lectures series, acclaimed novelist Margaret Atwood will be appearing at the Herbst Theatre on October 6. You probably know Atwood for “The Handmaid’s Tale,” a classic work of feminist fiction. But she has had a pretty stunningly prolific career, publishing more than 60 works. This event honors her latest book, “The Year of the Flood.”

Unlike most traditional readings, the October 6 program—”An Evening of Music, Reading and Performance Inspired by ‘The Year of the Flood'”—will feature music inspired by the novel and other acts of a more theatrical nature. That is to say, you won’t be bored. Best of all, this event benefits the 826 Valencia College Scholarships. That’s right, you can get entertained for a good cause!

The show begins at 8 p.m. Be sure to buy your tickets in advance, because this will sell out! (Trust me; I waited too long and missed some other City Arts & Lecture events I would have loved to attend. Sigh.)
