“Some enchanted evening, when you find your true loooove…” Are you singing along yet? If you are, there’s a good chance you’ll be interested in the new production of “South Pacific,” which arrives at the Golden Gate Theatre on September 18.
Widely regarded as one of the greatest musicals of all time, “South Pacific” is the story of “cockeyed optimist” Nellie Forbush, a Navy nurse from Arkansas, and her love for Emile de Becque, a French plantation owner. In the midst of World War II, the would-be couple encounter wartime atrocities and racial prejudice—all while singing a bunch of fantastic songs. The classic Rodgers & Hammerstein score includes “Some Enchanted Evening,” “I’m Gonna Wash That Man Right Outa My Hair,” “I’m in Love With a Wonderful Guy,” and “Younger Than Springtime.”
The show runs until October 25, so you have plenty of time to see it. You can buy tickets on the website. The Golden Gate Theatre is also offering rush tickets: show up to the performance two hours early for a chance to purchase $25 tickets. There’s a limited number available and you can only get two per person, but this is a great deal—don’t pass it up!
