Denver isn’t usually the first place people think of as a breeding ground of new musical talent.  At least not as much as the musical hotbeds of Seattle, Portland, or basically anywhere in California.  However, every now and then a local Denver band comes along that really deserves national attention.  “The Knew” are one of those bands.

Formed back in 2005 by Jacob Hansen (vocals/guitar), Tyler Breuer (guitar), and Patrick Bowden (drums), The Knew began as a bassless trio, until eventually recruiting bassist Tim Rynders in 2007.  According to Hansen, “Four-piece Rock is simple, and that’s what we were missing.”

The Knew’s 2007 EP, Holladay, was received favorably by local audiences, and featured a mix of blues-rock and country-punk.  After their successful debut, The Knew released Boom Bust in July 2008.  This was a return to the Blues and the roots of Rock and Roll.

The band has a great stage presence, filled with hypnotizing slide guitar licks, old-school synthesizer, driving and deliberate drums, all complete with whirlwinds of hair.  It is impossible to be at a Knew show without either bobbing your head or jamming out on your own air guitar.

The Knew began recording their first full-length album that is scheduled to be released later this year.  With an ever-increasing fan base, expect these guys to do some very big things.
