Trying to find the best shows going on next month, but are too overwhelmed by how many choices are out there? Here’s a Look at some October shows that might just be a little too good to pass up!
Ra Ra Riot Friday, October 2nd at The Trocadero Theatre
Ra Ra Riot from Syracuse, New York has been getting a lot of praise for their latest album The Rhumb Line. And in celebration of it they have been on a fall tour throughout the united states. Their Philadelphia stop over at the historic Trocadero marks the next to last night of the tour. They’ll be joined by Chicago’s Maps & Atlases, who have been gaining a lot of notoriety for their last ep You and me and the Mountain. Add in California’s Princeton and you destined to have one fun filled night of indie pop.
Dinosaur Jr. Friday, October 9th at Theatre of Living Arts
When you look at influential underdog bands from the 90’s J. Mascis and the rest of Dinosaur Jr. are definitely on that list. And ever since they reemerged a few years back they have been letting people know it in a big way. Whether it has been with Sugar, or throughout his solo career, Bob Mould is another influential singer who has been doing the same thing. So the fact that both well known artists are playing shows together on select dates is a pretty big deal!
Dirty Projectors Wednesday, October 21st at The Trocadero Theatre
Holy hot bands! If you haven’t heard of Dirty Projectors yet then rest assured it’s only a matter of time before you do. The Experimental band from Brooklyn has been earning a huge amount of praise for their newest album, Bitte Orca. They have also had the opportunities to collaborate with such well known musicians as David Byrne and Bjork. This show is going to be huge, and the opening acts haven’t even been announced yet!
Mum Thursday, October 22nd at First Unitarian Church
Seated Sanctuary Show featuring one of the best live bands! The melodic band from Iceland just recently released their latest album, Sing Along To Songs You Don’t Know, and they are getting ready to do a United States Tour in support before doing some stop overs in Kawasaki and Tel Aviv. Along with their vast assortment of instruments, the colorful band will be bringing along fellow Icelander Sin Fang Bous, who has been gaining a lot of recognition.
Dr. Dog Friday October 23rd, and Saturday October 24th at the Theatre of Living Arts
Philadelphia’s Dr. Dog has been gaining a HUGE amount of notoriety ever since they signed onto Park the Van Records, and put out their largest album to date Fate. They have even been dubbed a modern day version of The Beatles in many reviews! They are currently setting out on a miniature fall tour across the United States. And they are set to finish it up by not just doing one show, but by doing 2 in their hometown!
Dead Milkmen Saturday, October 31st at The Trocadero Theatre
If you lived in Philly in during the late 80’s early 90’s, and listened to even just a tiny bit of punk rock, then it meant that you grew accustomed to having songs like Punk Rock Girl and Bitchin Camaro etched in the back of your head for at least a good ten years by now. And there’s a good chance that it’s been that way for the rest of the country. Joe Jack Talcum, and the rest of the band reunited recently, and have managed to play sold out shows, whether they have done so under their name or an alias ever since. And their next show should be no exception since it’s on Halloween!
