Ok, so Halloween may be getting a lot of face time here at ol’ CultureMob central, but we haven’t forgotten that over in Germany October doesn’t mean candy corn and costumes; it it means beer and traditional, if somewhat vomit-stained, souvenirs. Luckily, Germany’s all-time greatest export (with apologies to Heidi Klum, luxury automobiles and Kraftwerk) will be holding court at the 8th Annual Das Best Oktoberfest.

Running from noon to 8 pm on October 10th at the Timonium Fairgrounds, this Oktoberfest is daylong celebration featuring more than 75 beers from 11 local breweries. Already, this year’s Maryland Brewer’s Association-approved roster of “inbibe-tainment” is set to feature the wares of Barley and Hops (Frederick). Brewer’s Alley (Frederick), The Brewer’s Art (Baltimore), Clipper City Brewing Co. (Baltimore), Dog Brewing Co. (Westminster), Duclaw Brewing Co. (Baltimore/Bowie), Flying Dog Brewery (Frederick), Franklin’s (Hyattsville), The Raven Brewery (Baltimore), Red Brick Station (White Marsh) and The Wharf Rat (Baltimore).

And, as if you’ll be sober enough to focus on moving objects, there’ll also be a Miss Oktoberfest pageant, biggest beer belly and “carry your wife” contests, and music from The Reagan Years, So Far Gone, the Kelly Bell Band and, of course, some traditional oompah, care of the Edelwiess Band.

With more than 10,000 people expected, this show goes on rain or shine. Tickets are $18 in advance or $25 at the gate for drinkers (stein included), and a paltry $10 for designated drivers. Get more information, including travel tips, here.
