When defining the perfect dining experience, most everyone has their own unique sets of standards in which they go by.  Usually these standards include things such as ambiance, price (especially these days), service,  and of course the food quality.  As any frequent diner can tell you, It can be difficult to find a restaurant that ranks high in all of these categories.  However, Venice Ristorante & Wine Bar in Denver comes very close.

Located on the corner of 17th and Wynkoop St. in LoDo, Venice Ristorante is an Italian food-lovers paradise, owned by Chef Alessandro Carollo.  When you walk in the door, you are greeted by very friendly staff members who actually seem eager to show you an excellent dining experience.

While being escorted to your table, you will not be able to ignore the clear blue glass wine cellar situated in the middle of the room.  The cellar houses some delicious wines, each from various regions in Italy.  The wine selection can be a bit intimidating because of its sheer size, so be sure to ask your server for recommendations or any other sort of help.

To begin your dining experience, you are presented with some delicious bread, complete with oil and vinegar.  This is definitely a must-have for any self-respecting Italian restaurant.  To whet your appetite, Venice offers a menu of salads and appetizers (le ensalate e gli antipasti).  The Calamaretti Fritti al Pesto is a flash-fried baby squid dish served with a spicy marinara sauce and a basil pesto.  It is sure to be a hit for seafood lovers as well as adventurous eaters who have never before tried squid.  Also recommended is the Granchio alla Veneziana, which are fresh Venetian style crab cakes, served with a saffron-gorgonzola cream sauce.  Don’t fill yourself up too much quite yet, because the best part of your dining experience is still around the corner.

Venice Ristorante’s dinner menu contains what seems to be an endless amount of options.  No matter what you are in the mood for, Venice will most likely have it.  Unless you are a connoisseur of Italian cuisine, the menu can be kind of confusing, and like the wine selection, can also be intimidating.  If this is the case for you, the friendly staff are more than happy to assist you, as well as offer some advice based on what types of food you like.  Venice offers some delicious and creative variations on popular Italian pasta and meat dishes.  Seafood fans are sure to love the Ravioli di Aragosta, which is a round-oval shaped ravioli filled with Maine lobster and Alaskan halibut, served with a cherry tomatoes and asparagus chardonnay-lobster sauce.  Another dinner favorite is the Gnocchi con Salsiccia, which are potato dumplings with spicy Italian sausage and wild mushrooms in a delicious marinara cream sauce.  Be sure to look over the entire menu for their other mouth-watering entrèes as well, as there are simply way too many fantastic options to list here.

Aside from the perfect glass of wine, nothing goes better with a great Italian dinner than a great Italian dessert, and Venice does not disappoint.  The dessert menu includes all the popular Italian dessert staples, including gelati, tiramisu, mousse al cioccolato (chocolate mousse), and crème brûlée, any of which are sure to be the perfect way to finish off a wonderful meal.

Whether it is an anniversary, a birthday, a first date, or simply a day when Italian food sounds too good to pass up, make sure to stop by Venice Ristorante & Wine Bar.  You will leave full, satisfied, and you may even pick up a bit of Italian vocabulary along the way.
