Chances are you’re probably celebrating the Holiday season stuffing your face with huge family dinners, sweets and treats, and the seasonal food merchandise that pops up only once a year (egg nog ice cream anyone?). But save some room for the newest treat to open in Chicago, Beard Papa. It’s just in time to indulge before the start of many New Years resolutions come January 1st.
What is Beard Papa you ask? Only the most tasty cream puffs franchise in the world! Started in Osaka, Japan in 1999, the Beard Papa empire has expanded to the US, but usually only on the West or East Coast. Thankfully Chicago is helping branch out the Beard Papa love with the newly opened store located downtown in the new Block 37 Pedway. This means you can jump off the blue line, and while transferring to the red grab yourself a fresh all natural cream puff. You’ll pick the flavor, and watch as they pump your puff full of tasty filling.
Some of the more popular flavors are the classic original vanilla bean, European chocolate custard, and green tea. Check when you stop by the store for additional flavors and products, including Italian coffee and Häagen Daz ice cream.
I haven’t stopped by the new store, but I’ll be checking it out as soon as I return to Chicago from my family Holiday celebration. While I was briefly living in New York, there was a Beard Papa a few blocks away from where I worked that my coworker (who grew up in Japan) introduced me to, and from that day on I was hooked. A Beard Papa cream puff will be the best way to top off the last of the Christmas Eggnog this season.
Beard Papa is located at Block 37, 108 N. State St, on the Pedway level. Their hours are Monday-Friday 6:30am-8pm, and weekends 10am-6pm. Follow the Chicago location on Twitter for more info and great deals.
