Selena Gomez and Justin Bieber to headline Pop-Con
Teen pop sensations Selena Gomez and Justin Bieber will headline Long Island’s Pop-Con music festival at Nassau Veteran’s Memorial Coliseum on February 20, 2010.
Pop-Con is an all-day music festival experience for tweens with multiple stages, various vendors and games with the amenities of a family-friendly convention environment. Pop-Con promises to be more than just a concert experience, with gaming stations, product sampling and vendors, including a “Culture Mall†that will bring in big name independent fashion merchandise companies such as Glamour Kills and Babycakes. In addition, the event will have programmed lectures, seminars and other opportunities for young, aspiring artists, actors and actresses looking to get advice from top industry professionals and stars of sport and screen.
Selena Gomez is a 17-year-old American actress and singer best known for her portrayal of Alex Russo on the Emmy Award winning Disney Channel Original Series, Wizards of Waverly Place. She has starred in the television movies, Another Cinderella Story and Princess Protection Program. Before Disney, she had one of the kid roles on Barney & Friends. In 2008, she signed a record deal with Hollywood Records and contributed to the Tinker Bell, Another Cinderella Story and Wizards of Waverly Place soundtracks. Her band, Selena Gomez & the Scene, released their debut studio album Kiss & Tell on September 29, 2009.
Canadian pop singer Justin Bieber may be best known for being discovered on YouTube, but he’s also the only artist in Billboard history to have four singles from a debut album chart in the Top 40 of the Hot 100 before the album’s release. He began his professional career on YouTube, where he was discovered by his future manager, Scooter Braun. Braun flew Bieber to Atlanta, Georgia, to consult with Usher and soon got Bieber signed to a record deal with Island.
The first part of his two-part debut album My World was released on November 17, 2009. Four successful pre-album singles have been released: “One Time”, “One Less Lonely Girl”, “Love Me”, and “Favorite Girl”, which were Top 15 hits on the Canadian Hot 100 and Top 40 hits on the Billboard Hot 100. The album received positive reviews from critics, and debuted at #6 on the U.S. Billboard 200, selling 137,000 copies in its first week, which was the second best opening release for a new artist in 2009.
Other artists include Care Bears on Fire, Mercy Mercedes, Push Play, Sean Kingston, and Nat and Alex Wolff.
