Five Bands for Five Bucks in Support of Girls Rock! DC
For the past two years, local music ed advocates Girls Rock! DC have put together a week-long camp “for girls to develop their self-confidence, build community, stand up and rock out!” To that end, they’ve rounded up five female-led local rock acts — including a trio composed solely of 14 and 15-year-olds — to raise moolah for the coming summer this Saturday, Feb. 6th at Chevy Chase‘s Comet Ping Pong.
Running from 2 to 5 pm, The Øther Delights — that aforementioned bunch of actual teenage noisemakers — will open up the show and be followed by a set from Gina on the Rocks, aka Gina Nguyen, who moonlights as the frontwoman of her own self-titled band when she’s not on the job as Production Manager at Thievery Corporation‘s ESL Music record label.
It’s then onto Moog-backed indie rockers Sweet Interference — who sound like “Interpol with girls” according to their bio — and electro beat peddlers, Photosynthesizers, with soul chanteuse Samantha Hewlett on vocals. Topping off the bill are synth-driven, Fort Reno alums, Power Pirate, who claim to draw equal inspiration from guitar-heavy hitmakers Muse and Israel’s favorite DMT-smoking DJs, Infected Mushroom.
Pretty diverse, no? And admission is a paltry five bucks (that $1 per band) with 100% of the proceeds going directly to Girls Rock! DC to boot. For more info, check out the fundraiser on Facebook.
