JELLO BIAFRA Takes the GUANTANAMO SCHOOL on Tour

0

In the years since the Dead Kennedys split, their always acerbic frontman Jello Biafra taken on innumerable one-off side projects, but tended to stay focused on his spoken word work. Now he’s getting back to what he does best — political critique that dost rock — with a new backing band, The Guantanamo School of Medicine.

Their first full-length, “The Audacity of Hype,” dropped on Alternative Tentacles (naturally) late last year, featuring a slew of Obama zeitgeist skewering anthems… and cover art from by Shepard Fairey, who, ironically enough also designed the Prez’s ubiquitous “Hope” poster.

Mixed messages aside, something tells us Jello won’t have too many kind words for Washington as a whole when the Guantanamo School pays its first visit to the nation’s capital this March. But with Jello, Greg Ginn, Henry Rollins and the original line-up of Scream all out on the road at present, concert bills across the country are beginning to look a bit like hardcore class of ’81 reunion sign-in sheets, no?
