Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers tour tickets on sale
Tickets for the upcoming Tom Petty and The Heartbreakers tour this summer go on sale Monday morning to the general public. The band is touring in support of its first studio album in eight years, Mojo, which is scheduled to be released this Spring.
The tour begins May 6 in Raleigh, NC and will take the band throughout the US and Canada all summer long. Special guests on the tour will include a mix of appearances by My Morning Jacket, Crosby, Stills and Nash, Joe Cocker, ZZ Top, and Drive-By Truckers.
To drive up ticket sales, the band is trying multiple offers that tie ticket sales to downloads of music.
Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers are a heartland rock band, most of whose members are from the United States. They were formed in 1976 by Tom Petty, Mike Campbell, and Benmont Tench, all of whom had been members of Mudcrutch. Petty and the Heartbreakers are known for hit singles such as “American Girl”, “Breakdown”, “The Waiting”, “Learning to Fly”, “Refugee” and “Mary Jane’s Last Dance.”
Petty is known as a staunch guardian of his creative control and artistic freedom. In 1979, he was dragged into a legal dispute when ABC Records was sold to MCA Records. He refused to be transferred to another record label without his consent. In May 1979, he filed for bankruptcy and was signed to the new MCA subsidiary Backstreet Records.
