GREASE Gets Gay (Gayer?) at the Lisner

According to the Gay Men’s Chorus of Washington, DC, their upcoming production of Grease is, well, “[t]he musical you know and love. Only gayer.” Sounds like a natural fit to us.

Picking up where their all-male stagings of The Wizard of Oz and Snow White left off, the GMCW will be playing up the subtexts beneath Jim Jacobs and Warren Casey‘s black leather-meets-pink satin musical for a three-day run at GWU’s Lisner Auditorium this March 19th-21st.

And really with numbers like “Freddy, My Love,” “Look at Me, I’m Sandra Dee” and “Rock ‘N’ Roll Party Queen,” the material couldn’t be be anymore fit for parody. Then there’s the whole John Travolta thing. After his turn as Danny Zuko in Grease‘s perpetually referenced/rented/rash-inducing 1978 film adaptation, he followed it up with a bunch of totally straight roles, like:
