Wizard World Philly: June Comic Con Features Patrick Stewart and “Buffy†Celebs
“Star Trek†legends including Patrick Stewart are two of the more than 150 sci-fi, fantasy and geek culture celebrities who will be present at Wizard World Philly’s June Comic Con event. Though big “Star Trek†names headline the event, Comic Con and its fan base encompass various genres and media including film, manga, wrestling and video games.
Other “Star Trek†guests include John de Lancie, Keegan de Lancie, Cirroc Lofton, Avery Brooks, Walter Koenig and Bobby Clark (AKA “Gorn Captainâ€). Some “Trek†actors will only be available on certain days; check the Comic Con schedule for more info.
Fans of “Buffy: the Vampire Slayer†will appreciate guest appearances from Clare Kramer and James Marsters. Convention stars also include Linda Hamilton and Linda Blair.
In addition to featured guests and celebrities, Comic Con is also noted for organized and well-attended CCG (customizable card game) and table top role playing game demos and sanctioned tournaments. This year, Comic Con will also feature a masquerade ball hosted by Zenescope Entertainment.
Truly a Philly geek’s paradise, you’ll find Comic Con centrally located at the Pennsylvania Convention Center. This site is accessible by foot, cab or public transportation, including SEPTA’s regional rail and PATCO (if you’re coming from Jersey). Unlike smaller local venues, this convention center and the city in general have the capacity to facilitate conventions and other large gatherings of this magnitude due to the vast amount of hotels available in the area.
Comic Con tickets are available for the day and as weekend passes. Pre-purchased VIP passes are also available and include fan packages for fans of Michael Turner, Bruce Campbell and “Lady Death” (courtesy Avatar Press).
If you’re headed to this event locally or nationally, public transportation is strongly recommended. Philadelphia has an excellent public transit system; if you’d like to experience Philly beyond the con, most major tourist sites are easily accessible.
