Seattle Rock 'n' Roll marathon runners - 2009Kicking off Seattle’s annual Seafair event, you will want to mark your calendar for Seafair’s Rock ‘n’ Roll Seattle Marathon and 1/2 Marathon on June 26, 2010.  This event benefits the American Cancer Society and is sure to be a crowd pleaser for athletes, budding athletes, and music aficionados.

Collaborating with the Competitor Group, Inc., the American Cancer Society strives to empower endurance in athletes of all levels as well as encouraging participants and spectators to take a more proactive role in personal health promotion all the while helping save lives from the devastating disease of cancer.

The American Cancer Society/Competitor Group alliance kicks off this national event in Seattle on June 26, 2010 and will follow with future events in Chicago and New Orleans.

The course starts in Tukwila with both marathon and 1/2 marathon runners and finishes in downtown Seattle at Qwest field.  All participants will complete the first 9 miles together with the full marathon runners splitting off near the Lake Washington floating bridge shore.  Last year, perfect weather and the challenging course allowed this event to sell out with 25,000 total participants.  Event organizers are expecting the same sell out numbers so it is important to register as soon as possible if you wish to participate in either marathon.

Participants and spectators will be entertained by approximately 40 bands along the course (one band at every course mile) – including Creme Tangerine, Southside, and The Purrs – and Tonic as the post-race concert headliner.  The band Tonic is best known for “If You Could Only See”, has garnered six top 10 singles, as well as numerous awards and hit songs known around the globe.

Those interested in participating in either the full or half marathon may do so online at http://seattle.competitor.com/register/.  The race begins on June 26, 2010 at 7 am.  The complete course route can be viewed at http://seattle.competitor.com/files/2009/04/SEA_10_CourseMap-2.pdf.  As an added bonus this year, fellow race participants can receive discount tickets for the Seattle Mariners game on Thursday, June 24 at 12:40 pm.
