Attention Philly Shoppers: Philadelphia Celebrates Independent Retail Week June 14-20, 2010
During Independent Retail Week, you can experience over 20 fabulous fashion events, contests, sales, contests and giveaways in Philadelphia. Shoppers are encouraged to support the local, independent retailers that help define Philly’s neighborhoods and culture. Fashion events support independent shops and the environment, including kid and pet-friendly activities.
To start, visit a participating retailer to receive a free Independent Retail Week tote bag with complementary goodies, city map and shopping guide. Events also include family and pet-friendly fun.
Kids from Philadelphia can enter the Beatuful World T-Shirt Design Contest by submitting a colorful drawing of their ideal world to SA VA at 1700 Sansom Street and Arcadia Boutique at 819 North 2nd Street. Proceeds from winning shirt sales benefit women in the Democratic Republic of Congo, empowering them to create a stable and supportive community for their families.
Crazy about your pet? Bonejour Pet Supply at 3rd and Arch Streets and Just Dogs Gourmet at 1804 Chestnut Street invite you to take a photo of your pet in his or her finest fashion. Your pet will get a treat in exchange for the fab photo.
Other events include the SA VA Fashion Show, taking place in Love Park on June 19 from 6 p.m. â€“ 8 p.m. This fashion show focuses on environmentally-friendly, sustainable fashion as well as locally-created products.
Multiple independent retail vendors also offer specials and freebies such as discounts, massages, food and cocktails in stores and open air spaces. You’ll also find many trunk shows during Independent Retail Week.
