Here is a confession: I have an overwhelming deep appreciation and love for great jazz piano. Dave Peck is a local who really stands out. His playing is fresh and he knows how to bring traditional standards to life. He performs as a trio with bassist Jeff Johnson and Joe La Barbera behind the kit. Each player feeds off of each other and I can only imagine the chemistry translating well into a live setting.

Dave and company have a new live album entitled Modern Romance and Jazz Alley not only hosts the CD release show today, but was also the venue that the live recordings took place in back in 2007. If you visit Dave Peck’s website you can listen to his take on the 1935 classic If I Should Lose You. The level of musicianship and “play” on the keys is high as I would only expect, however I was really taken in by the sound quality of the album. The drum’s are full and high notes are crisp and clean. I’m looking forward to hearing what else the trio has to offer.
