Attention Star Wars fans: you can soon own one of the most awesome Darth Vader helmets in the galaxy!

Back in 2009, a roving art exhibit called The Vader Project was set up by Dov Kelemer and Sarah Jo Marks of DKE toys. One-hundred artists and designers were given a full scale Star Wars Darth Vader helmet, and they were told to customize it as they wished (basically a geeky take on the CowParade project).

Some of the participants included Shag, Peter Kuper, Jermaine Rogers, Gary Baseman, BXH, Tim Biskup, The Pizz, Dalek, Paul Frank, Ron English, Jeff Soto, Michelle Valigura, Frank Kozik, Plasticgod, Simone Legno – Tokidoki, Bill McMullen, Secret Base, Joe Ledbetter, Alex Pardee, Suckadelic, Cameron Tiede, Mister Cartoon, Marc Ecko, and Amanda Visell. Once completed, The Vader Project was displayed at Star Wars conventions and museums all over the world.

The exhibit is finally coming to an end, and the helmets will be auctioned off on July 10th in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. They are valued from $3,000 to $15,000.

“The result is astounding” said Simeon Lipman Pop Culture Specialist at Freemans. “The sale will give members of the public the chance to purchase unique artworks made from these iconic symbols of the movie industry by a number of well known artists including Shag, Marc Ecko, Tim Biskup, Frank Kozik and many more.”

You can view detailed images of all of the Vader helmets at Freeman’s website. Some of the highlights (for me anyway, art is so subjective) are Lot 56 (Lady Liberty Vader), Lot 73 (L.A. Darth Vader), and Lot 76 (Praise the Lord). But I definitely recommend browsing through the entire gallery.
