Okay, there’s only so much information you can stuff into a headline, but I hope it gives you an idea of what a big deal this is. Watersport legends Laird Hamilton and Dave Kalama are so much more than just surfers, and their latest passion is Stand Up Paddleboards. The ancient Hawaiian sport is enjoying a modern renaissance, with Hamilton and Kalama leading the way.

On Friday, July 9th, Hamilton and Kalama will appear at the Seattle REI Flagship store to talk about Stand Up Paddleboarding, share photos and answer audience questions. For free. You’ll also have a chance to get autographs. An Evening with Laird Hamilton & Dave Kalama runs from 6:30 pm to 9:00 pm.

Then, on Saturday, July 10th, head down to the swimming beach at Magnuson Park to see a Stand Up Paddleboard demo and try a few out yourself. Again for free. And yes, you got it, Hamilton and Kalama will be there. The event lasts from 10:00 am to 3:00 pm.

“Are you a stand up paddleboarder? Maybe you’ve seen people paddling along on “those giant surf boards”, and wanted to try it out. Or maybe you’re just looking for a way to get out on the water, and perhaps get a little exercise at the same time. If any of these apply to you, this is the opportunity you’ve been waiting for to try out a Stand Up Paddleboard (SUP)! Come join two legends of the surf and SUP world for a FREE on-the-water demo day at Magnusson Park. This is your best-ever chance to hit the water, try the latest boards from the best manufacturers, and get some tips from the world’s leading experts in this emerging sport. Whether you’re a first-timer or a seasoned pro, you will not want to miss this event. Presented by Surftech & Naish.”

Stand Up Paddle Boards are available to rent out on Green Lake through Green Lake Boat Rentals or at the Northwest Outdoor Center on the west side of Lake Union.
