Grab a blanket and some camp chairs and head on out to the Zilker Hillside Theater to watch the musical “Annie,” the little orphan who inspired Jay-Z. Shows start at 8:30 pm and run Thursdays – Sundays through August 14th. Shows are free with the option to pay-what-you-wish to support the operation. The Zilker Summer Musical production has been an Austin tradition since 1959 and Zilker Theatre Productions is a non-profit organization that strives to preserve it.
From the official site:
Annie is a spunky depression-era orphan, determined to find her parents who abandoned her years ago on the doorstep of a New York City orphanage run by the cruel, embittered Miss Hannigan. In adventure after fun-filled adventure, Annie foils Miss Hannigan’s evil machinations, befriends President Franklin Delano Roosevelt and finds a new family and home with billionaire Oliver Warbucks, his personal secretary Grace Farrell… and a lovable mutt named Sandy.
