Calories don’t count during the Bite of Seattle. You can have as many Mighty-O doughnuts as you want and eat as many dumplings and bratwursts as you can hold without gaining a pound. Unicorns and leprechauns will also be wandering the Seattle Center grounds during this weekend’s Bite of Seattle.
Okay, maybe none of that is true, except that the Bite is this weekend. Starting today. The Bite runs from 11 am to 9 pm today and tomorrow and from 11 am to 8 pm on Sunday. There’s no cost for admission.
It’s also a better Bite this year with some new features. Of particular interest is the return of Just a Bite. Seven restaurants will offer smaller portions for $3.75 each. This is in answer to complaints that most of the items at previous Bites have been too much food for too much money. Green Bites, on the Fisher roof, will feature organic, sustainable food from vendors like Blue Moon Burgers and Chaco Canyon.
Tom Douglas will of course be there in The Alley, where you “can pay $10 for for a full meal of tastes” from seven different restaurants. For $15 you can stop by the the Wine Tasting area and get five tastes and a wine glass while listening to live jazz.
There will be plenty of music, a sandwich making and eating competition, arts and crafts vendors and strawberry shortcake from Remlinger Farms. And in case you really are watching what you eat, each restaurant will offer a “Right Bite” item that is a healthy option, like vegan gyros, tofu spring rolls and quinoa salmon salad.
