William Shatner’s Captain Kirk Uniform Sells for $44,813 at Auction
The big story splashing across all the geeky news wires today is the fortune someone shelled out to own a Starfleet uniform worn by Star Trek‘s William Shatner. The winning bid was for $44,813.
The uniform was worn by Shatner in Star Trek: The Wrath of Khan, and then by actor Leon Russom in Star Trek: The Undiscovered Country. It was designed by Robert Fletcher at the behest of director Nicholas Meyer to give the uniforms a more naval look. Known as the “Wrath of Khan” uniforms, they were used from Wrath of Khan through The Undiscovered Country, and then made an appearance in Star Trek: Generations. They are one of the most iconic uniforms in Star Trek.
Here’s the full description of the uniform up for auction from the official Heritage Auction Galleries listing:
The uniform consists of the distinctive maroon jacket, sleeveless white undershirt, black trousers, and black leather belt with metal Starfleet insignia buckle included. The jacket features a Western Costume Co. tag with Shatner’s name typed onto it and Russom’s name handwritten on it in black felt tip; the slacks have a Paramount Studios tag bearing Russom’s name in felt tip sewn into the waistband. The uniform is in overall Excellent condition with the exception of a small hole on the front of the jacket where an insignia pin was attached.
The only other item to reach a higher price at the auction was a 1959 Gibson Les Paul custom guitar, which went for $56,762.50.
