We’ve fretted about the tragic Gulf Coast situation for months, all the while feeling powerless.  Well, now there’s something you can do to help.  Austin institutions are coming together this Friday, July 23rd, starting from 6pm, to host the Gulf Coast Disaster Relief Benefit, and it has all the makings of a good time in Austin: good food, good music, and interesting people.

Hotel San Jose and Jo’s is providing the location at their parking lot at 1316 S. Congress and Perla’s Larry McGuire is serving up a Louisiana-style shrimp and crawfish boil at $10 a plate.

And, of course, what’s an Austin event without some good music?  Papa Mali,  and The Lost Bayou Ramblers will be providing the tunes with a Louisiana flair.

You can also learn about Texas’s own energy policies from Representative Mark Strama as well as learn about volunteer opportunities and green energy resources in Austin from local activist, Brandi Clark.

Bring a blank t-shirt and take part in the interactive screenprinting booth.  The benefits proceeds will go to the Gulf Restoration Network and the Greater New Orleans Foundation’s Oil Spill Fund.

The benefit kicks off at 6:00 pm with a suggested $10 donation at the door.  Have a little fun and contribute to a good cause at the same time.
