Vegan Eats in Orange County

Not all vegans are into salad: sample what else is out there.

Hey Vegans: tired of ordering salads and sides in an attempt to avoid meat, hidden or obvious?  Start saving your recycling money, shine up your favorite vegan faux leather Mary Janes, and bus it to Irvine, Costa Mesa, or Huntington Beach for the best totally vegan or vegan-friendly restaurants.  Try getting a few of your friends, health nuts and skeptics alike, to do a restaurant tour with you.  Visit one a week, or one a month and get inspired by the variety out there.

In Irvine, try Wheelof Life, The Veggie Grill, Greens Café for great lunch and dinner choices at mostly reasonable prices, or for funsies catch a vegan lunch truck and hunt down Seabirds.

In Huntington Beach, get all emotional at Loving Hut, worship yourself at The Living Temple, get in at Good To Go, and don’t forget Bodhi Tree Café.

Go to Costa Mesa to stay cool at 118 Degrees Raw Food Cuisine, Happy Family serves many vegan dishes or can adapt any dish to be vegan, and Avanti Café in Costa Mesa gets rave reviews.

Not close to those cities?  The Stand Natural Foods in Laguna Beach is well worth the trip, but go on a nice day: the seating is all outdoors.  For sweet desserts in Laguna Beach, Dolce Gelato has the lactose-intolerant and cruelty-free sweet tooth covered.  Native Foods not only has a well-reviewed location in Costa Mesa; they can be found in Tustin and down in south county in Aliso Viejo.  If you need more Loving, check them out in Orange or Ladera Ranch.  Put your fancy pants on when you drive to Au Lac in Fountain Valley to sample the fare from the Raw Chef.  And finally, Lavender Lounge Tea Co. isn’t the place to go if your stomach’s eating your backbone, but great when you want tea done right in San Clemente or Dana Point.  Pinky up, folks.
