A couple of weeks ago I wrote about the Pageant of the Masters in Laguna Beach, California, but neglected to tell you about another awesome date night/place of inspiration/reason #56748 to love living in SoCal. This amazing event is none other than the Sawdust Art and Craft Festival, located across the street from the Pageant of the Masters on Laguna Canyon Road.

The Sawdust Art and Craft Festival is folksy heaven – a handmade getaway for artsy types and an easy score for those looking to impress their friends or date with their cultured activities.

The Summer Show of Sawdust (say that five times fast) is all about the things we love about summer in Orange County: perfect weather, good friends, good food and plenty of room for creativity. Local artisans show off their specialties and vendors come prepared with unique and beautiful handcrafted pieces to bring flair to any home, studio or office. Even if you’re not in the mood to take home treasures, live music serenades your browsing throughout the days and evenings, and the outdoor ambiance of Laguna Canyon makes for an enjoyable day out.

If you’re looking to tap into your own creativity, workshops are held throughout the Festival, or you can step outside the Sawdust grounds and head next door to Pure Light, a candle-making studio that perfectly allows for the making of keepsakes and is a great way to get off your feet and let your muse go. At Pure Light, novice wax-loving artists decide everything – from mold shape to wax colors to fragrance and personalized doo-dads on top or hidden inside your waxy creation. Once finished, the candles take 1-3 hours to cool, so plan to go create for a while, then head back into Sawdust for some more perusing while your candle finishes.

Pure Light Candles range from small, quick projects for the kids to big, elaborate conversation pieces – whatever you’re feeling is possible! Who knows, you may be thinking that you’re not too creative, but after an afternoon at Sawdust, your inspiration is flowing and your one-of-a-kind candle exceeds your wildest dreams. It could definitely happen.

The Sawdust Art and Craft Festival runs through August 29 and is open from 10 am to 10 pm daily. Pure Light is open from 10 am to 6 pm on weekdays, 11 am to 5 pm on weekends.
