Ready, Set, Bag!, the documentary film that chronicles the lives of eight grocery baggers competing in the annual National Grocers Association best bagger competition, is supporting local food banks everywhere the film screens by joining with theatres to donate $1 for every ticket sold at the box office. In Seattle and Bellingham, donations will go to Food Lifeline, the state’s largest hunger relief organization.

Ready, Set, Bag! makes its theatrical debut on August 6 in Seattle at the Central Cinema and in Bellingham August 14th at the Pickford Film Center.

According to the film’s producers, Ensemble Pictures, screenings of the documentary through July have already funded over 4,500 meals across America. In addition, all ad revenue from the Ready, Set, Bag! online web series, which broadcasts additional footage, celebrity remixes, and fan videos, is also being donated to food banks.

For the Seattle showing, Ensemble Pictures became the first film to pre-sell screening tickets using the social commerce site Groupon, after exceeding the ticket sales requirement for the “deal of the day” on July 25. Film goers purchased 294 discounted tickets online for the Central Cinema screenings.

“The grocery store is a very common experience which is why this film resonates with so many people,” said director Justine Jacob. “We love that we can use this fun, feel good film to raise awareness and money for the food bank which is such a vital part of our community—feeding those who aren’t always able to go to the supermarket.”

Jacob will be at the Central Cinema opening night screening for a Q&A after the film.
