The Most Romantic Cities in America

Honolulu, Hawaii is the most romantic city in America
Honolulu, Hawaii is the most romantic city in America

Travel + Leisure readers chose the most romantic cities in America and the results may just be an eye opener. Whether you’re fanning the flames or just beginning to light the fires of romance, the magazine ranks 30 cities that can get the job done.

With the exception of New York City — which has always lived by its own rules — it’s interesting to note that every city in the top ten is located somewhere that’s mostly warm and sunny. You’d think colder climates would encourage closeness, but apparently that factor is much farther down the list of romantic criteria.

The Top Ten

  • Honolulu
  • Charleston
  • San Francisco
  • New Orleans
  • Santa Fe
  • San Diego
  • San Antonio
  • Las Vegas
  • Miami
  • New York

Now you know where to go for your next vacation. Or possibly where to pack up and move to if you’re single and searching. The remaining cities on the list all have their good points, and the slideshow on the Travel + Leisure site explain them all. In order:

  • Chicago
  • Seattle
  • Portland, OR
  • Providence
  • Phoenix/Scottsdale
  • Denver
  • Boston
  • Nashville
  • Austin
  • Orlando
  • Minneapolis/St. Paul
  • Kansas City
  • Philadelphia
  • Los Angeles
  • Houston
  • Atlanta
  • Cleveland
  • St. Louis
  • Washington D.C.
  • Dallas/Ft. Worth

It’s worth it to note that only big cities are on this list. While smaller towns may not have a wide variety of offerings, intimate charm can certainly stoke romance. I’m looking at you, Savannah, Georgia and Carmel, California. And so should you.
