There is nothing I love more in this world than ice cream and all of its relatives (except for maybe my relatives): sorbet, gelato, frozen yogurt, popsicles…I adore them all. So you know I can’t wait for the 4th Annual Austin Ice Cream Festival, happening August 14th in Waterloo Park. From 10:00AM to 7:00PM, there will be vendors from all over Austin, including hometown favorite Amy’s Ice Creams, Austin Scoops, and Good Pop, proffering not only frozen treats, but other foods and crafts as well. Various local bands will provide background music for the day.
Can’t stomach all that ice cream? Let someone else take care of it. The Ice Cream Eating Contest this year will feature four-time Nathan’s Hot Dog Eating Champion, Joey Chestnut, pitted against the first 30 Austinites who sign up.
Lactose intolerant? Try entering the Screaming (yes, screaming) or Popsicle Stick Sculpture Contests. Prefer to make your ice cream rather than eat it? There is a competition for you, too: registration for the Homemade Ice Cream Contest starts at 10:00AM, and the making commences at 11:00.
If you are fearful about accidental lactose overdose, no worries, the festival is sponsored in large part by Pepto-Bismol.
Kids (8 and under) get in free. Everyone else needs to bring $5. 🙂
