The Upright Citizens Brigade: A Great, Cheap Place to See Improv in Los Angeles
Whether you are looking for a place for a great first date or just a fun cheap evening out with friends, check out The Upright Citizens Brigade at 5919 Franklin Avenue.Â
Co-Founders Amy Poehler (SNL, Parks and Recreation), Matt Besser, Ian Roberts and Matt Walsh opened their West coast location in 2005 and have been selling out their 95-seat theatre ever since.
You can see great Improv teams, sketch comedy and stand-up. Some notable performers there are Aziz Ansari (Parks and Recreation, Human Giant), Aubrey Plaza (Parks and Recreation), Charlyne Yi (Paper Heart) Paul Scheer (Human Giant), Rob Huebel (Children’s Hospital).
There are about 4 shows every night that range from $8 to free. You can buy or reserve tickets on line and make sure to get to the theatre about 30-45 minutes ahead of time to get a good seat (there is always a line outside, but with reservations you are set). They also have a stand-by line for “sold-out” shows. You can put your name on the stand-by list and grab a drink or dinner at one of the neighboring restaurants.
