Can you think of anything better to do on Friday the 13th than throw a party? The South Lake Union neighborhood can’t, so they’re holding their 6th annual Block Party on Friday, August 13th. from noon to 11:00 pm. Head to the South Lake Union Discovery Center, located at the corner of Denny Way and Westlake Ave. N, for all the fun.

From noon to night there will be plenty of activities for kids, and the Cascade Farmers Market will be in full swing. There will also be a food sampling area featuring several area restaurants, including Tom Douglas Restaurants, Flying Fish and Tutta Bella. Tickets for sampling are $1 each or $5 for 6 tickets. In addition, several mobile food trucks will be parked, including Maximus/Minimus, Dante’s Inferno Dogs and Molly Moon’s Ice Cream. Those are full price and worth it.

Things heat up for the “after work, welcome to the weekend” crowd at 3:00 pm when the Beer Garden opens up. At 5:00 pm wine tasting gets under way with the 3rd annual Discover Wine Event. You can, “taste wines from many Washington wineries and enjoy gourmet appetizers from Portage Bay Café and chocolates from Claudio Corallo Chocolate all while supporting local nonprofit organizations.”

Then there’s more food stuff.

“Watch local chefs from Flying Fish, Seastar Restaurant and Raw Bar, and Whole Foods Market battle it out in the ultimate grilling showdown as part of the Whole Foods Market grilling competition taking place from 5:00 – 6:30 PM. Each chef will have 90 minutes using ingredients provided by Whole Foods. The winner will decided by a panel of judges who will select the best grilled culinary creation.”

And to end it all in fitting style:

“Cap off the 6th annual Block Party with a movie under the stars. And to honor the superstitious day that the Block Party falls on, Friday the 13th, this year’s Cinema on the Lawn, sponsored by Amazon, will be devoted to the undead.

First up will be a special screening of Michael Jackson’s Thriller followed by the recent smash Zombieland (Rated R). The Block Party’s outdoor movie will begin 30 minutes after dusk (approx. 9:00—9:30 PM)”

And if good fun isn’t enough to get you there:

“Proceeds from this year’s SLU Block Party will benefit Historic Seattle, the only nonprofit dedicated to preserving Seattle and King County’s architectural legacy.”
