The Feel Good Catwalk: Austin Fashion Week Events Helps Out Local Charities

0

Now your catwalk viewing doesn’t have to be restricted to watching old episodes of Sex And The City or Fashion TV.  That’s because Austin’s very own Fashion Week is coming up this weekend giving you the opportunity to class it up while doing some good. There are over 100 events featuring 57 Showcase Designers and as an added bonus, some of the events will be benefitting non-profit organizations!

It starts August 14th at 6:00 pm with GSD&M Idea City’s Kick-off  event which will include a Silent Auction and Fashion Art Sale to benefit Austin Involved and Dress for Success.  Catch a glimpse of the handy-work of Twelfth Street By Cynthia Vincent, Robert Stock for Robert Graham, and  the best mash up of local talent with 25 Austin Fashion Week teams comprised of a clothing designer, jewelry designer, photographer, hairstylist, makeup artist and model.

But that’s just the start.  Already sold out is the Keep Austin Beautiful Recycled Fashion Show to be held at the Austin Museum of Art Downtown on August 15th, however you can rub elbows with designers and participants at the after party at The Marq.  The Marq is donating a portion of their drink sales on the 15th to Keep Austin Beautiful.

A Hair Affair, on August 16th at The Phoenix is throwing a fashion show highlighting stylist Ana Castro, benefiting Locks of Love, and featuring a great DJ line-up:  DJ Manny, Toddy B, Govinda, and Gking.

One of my personal favorite charities, SafePlace, is getting a very generous leg-up from Bead It during Fashion With Compassion, a unique event with workshops, live music, and cocktails. Bring in a bag of gently used clothing or new toiletries for SafePlace and receive 20% off everything in the store.  Learn how to make fabulous jewelry while helping a great organization. All proceeds and clothing donations will go to SafePlace.

If you love animals and accessories, be sure to mark Fashion in Flight on your calendar.  On August 19th, Bon Vivant Events and Lifestyle Stylist Jessica Rae Anderson will be bringing together the works of different designers in a showcase benefiting Austin Pets Alive, a non-profit dedicated to making Austin a “No Kill” city.   Nicole Wright, president of Bon Vivant says, “We feel like we have merged together some of the best in fashion, spirits, music, restaurants, locales – all for a good cause”. The event will feature designers from from Austin, Arizona, D.C., Miami, Ecuador, Europe and New York, popular local restaurants, and an after party at Dogwood, owned by local celebrity Brad Womack of The Bachelor Season 11 fame.

So there you have it.  Strut your stuff and feel good about it. Fashionistas, did I miss any important Austin Fashion Week events that help out charity?
