Shepard Fairey Auctions Studio Visit for Brave New Foundation
Shepard Fairey, most famous for his Obama “Hope” poster and his “Obey Giant” campaign, is donating an intimate tour of his LA studio to Brave New Foundation. Â The visit is being auctioned through August 25 to benefit the organization, which says their mission is “to champion social justice issues by using a model of media, education, and grassroots volunteer involvement that inspires, empowers, motivates and teaches civic participation and makes a difference” according to Art Knowledge News.
Fairey, an advocate for free speech, created the poster above with this to say about it: “Free speech needs to be celebrated and exercised as a cornerstone of true participation in democracy. I think using your voice goes hand in hand with casting your vote. People with the courage to express a view that was unpopular have encouraged others to speak their minds and turned political tides. Don’t underestimate your power to make a difference.” The poster has already sold out after being released on August 13.
