Just a day away from wrapping up this year’s event, the Los Angeles Latino International Film Festival (LALIFF) presents today the L.A. premiere of Go For It!, a dance movie directed by Carmen Marron, a Chicago native of Mexican descent, and featuring actress Aimee Garcia (of the George Lopez Show).
Go For It! is a semi-autobiographical film that tells the story of a Chicago junior college student with an attitude who balances her parents’ wishes to keep her in school with her desire to spend her nights in the underground clubs of Chicago. That is until a professor challenges her to audition for a formal dance school in California, a move that kicks in a chain of events that changes the course of her life.
Director Marron and her husband spent almost six years saving up to develop this just-under one million dollar project. The music featured is diverse – hip hop, reggaeton, samba, even flamenco and pop, as in the case of the title song “Go For It!” which was co-composed by Marron.
Go For It! will be screened at Mann Theater #1 (at Hollywood and Highland) at 5.30 pm Tuesday August 24. Tickets are $12 and can be purchased only on location. More information about the film at http://www.facebook.com/GOFORITMovie
