Anaheim Ducks trim down further with additional reassignments

The Anaheim Ducks have gone from 5 goaltenders to 2: Jonas Hiller and Curtis McElhinney will stop the pucks this season; Levasseur was sent to Syracuse Friday, September 24th, and the 2 young goalies Bobkov and Pielmeier were reassigned as well; Bobkov was sent down to the Junior team, and Pielmeier will join Levasseur in Syracuse.

Defenseman Joe DiPenta, a pro tryout, was reassigned to the AHL last week, and this week, left wing Stephane Veilleux, the other pro tryout, was released.

Luca Sbisa, sent down last year after 8 games, hope to make the cut this year.

Centers Trevor Smith and MacGregor Sharp were also sent to the AHL, as well as defenseman Jake Newton.  Fans are waiting to see who makes the final cut: still hanging on are Cam Fowler and Luca Sbisa, in the current roster of 30.  Bob Murray was recently asked whether both would be kept on the final roster, and he expressed he was open to the idea.

“Chemistry” is the byword this year as management whittles down the team.  Bobby Ryan is already being tried in a different spot, playing on point, and Murray recently emphasized the importance of chemistry in the team this year, as the decided lack of chemistry was one of the factors which held the team back last year in a disappointing finish out of the playoffs.

Selanne still breezes by other skaters. Will he wear the C this year?

Head coach Randy Carlyle and general manager Bob Murray are talking about who will wear the C, but are in no hurry to confirm a captain just yet.  The departure of Scott Niedermayer left a void on the team, and management are being very careful in selecting a mature-thinking, yet aggressive spokesman and leader.

As of Monday, September 27th, the Anaheim Ducks have won two pre-season games, and lost two.  The next match up, away at the cross-town rival LA Kings tomorrow, will be critical in showcasing strengths, and exposing weaknesses, in a very different Ducks team from the struggling group which skated last year.
