Gojira Are One Of The Best Bands Ever
That’s just my opinion. But I think I’m right. Gojira are French. But they don’t sound French. At least that’s what my lady friend said last week as we were listening to the technical metallers’ 2005 LP From Mars To Sirius. That album’s perfect; there’s not a single song you want to skip over. Yes, it is one of those rare gems that holds up — first note to last — even five years later. But 2008’s The Way of All Flesh wasn’t as good, but it was still solid.
It’s been two years since we’ve heard some new Gojira, but there’s been talk for a long time about an EP that would benefit Sea Shepherd, a non-profit marine conservation group that helps save whales. That EP is — in fact — happening.
Not coincidentally, Gojira are big whale fans. Those dudes are constantly talking about whales on From Mars To Sirius, and the cover features a flying whale. I like whales too. Whales are cool. And long. And like plankton.
Gojira will be entering a Los Angeles studio next week to start working on that EP, which will feature four songs produced by Logan Mader. The band says that the effort will feature some “very special guests singing.” Dude, I can’t wait to see who they’ve got lined up for this one, but let’s think: They’re recording in LA, so who could they get? Robb Flynn? Chino Moreno?
