If you’ve been living under a rock, and haven’t heard, two trailers were released this week with very similar concepts.  No wait, scratch that, it’s the same concept.  Two friends engage in a casual sex relationship, and things get complicated.  Friends with Benefits stars Justin Timberlake and Mila Kunis.  No Strings Attached stars Ashton Kutcher and Natalie Portman.  A friendly showdown, Kunis and Portman recently starred together in the Darren Arronofsky flick Black Swan.  A film which has placed Portman as an Oscar frontrunner, but hey, she’s a frontrunner in all her films for me.  Don’t get me wrong, I love Mila Kunis as well. In addition to Kunis vs. Portman, it’s going to be Kunis vs. Kutcher. They starred together on The 70’s Show. IT’S SO ON!

Friends with Benefits

Directed, and co-written, by Will Gluck from Easy A and Fired Up!. The red band trailer definitely gives off more of a comedy. This may be good. We’ve seen Timberlake and his skits on SNL. The dude can be funny. Kunis brings charm with her everywhere she goes. Together, they can spark great chemistry. There has been a lot of disappointments with Hollywood films lately, but I think I’ll give this one a chance. It seems like there could be loads of laughs in here. Judge the two trailers yourself. Decide which one you’ll like.

No Strings Attached

Written by Elizabeth Meriwether, and directed by Ivan Reitman, this script, originally named F***Buddies, landed on the ’08 Blacklist, which are the most popular scripts in Hollywood that were unproduced at the time.  Well, it’s been produced! Because of the controversial title, they renamed it Friends with Benefits. After finding out there was already another film in the works under that title, they settled on No Strings Attached. You follow?  In comparison to the Timberlake/Kunis film, this film seems to have a little more heart. I love comedies that have heart. And I have loved everything Portman has chosen to do so far in her career. My only issue is Ashton Kutcher. I just can’t take that guy seriously. Yes, I know… I like JT more as an actor, than Kutcher. Oh well, I hope he doesn’t ruin the film for me.
