Lighted Christmas Tree at Portland's Pioneer SquareGet infused with Christmas cheer this year while your Thanksgiving dinner digests.

On November 26, the day after Thanksgiving, the annual tree lighting ceremony will be held at Pioneer Square in Downtown Portland. Kicking off at 5:30pm, the event is being hosted by KGW NewsChannel 8 and Kink.fm and will feature a full schedule of events for the whole family, including a community sing-along session and music by The Patrick Lamb Band featuring Chosen Generation Gospel Choir. Thousands of spectators are expected to attend on one of Downtown’s most vibrant days of the season. Attendance is free and open to the public.

If Christmas tree lighting isn’t your thing, perhaps Zoolights are! The Oregon Zoo will also begin its annual Zoolighting tradition the same day by lighting up their zoo with thousands of lights. Drop in to see their display and to enjoy some live music or a train ride until the end of the Christmas season. Scheduling and prices vary, so check the Oregon Zoo website for more information.

If animals still aren’t your bag, check the Portland International Raceway for a similarly lighted experience from the comfort of your car. Their drive-thru display will open on Thanksgiving Day and will run throughout the holiday season. Their prices and schedules also vary, so view their website for more details.
