In September, The Decemberists told audience members at the Bumbershoot Festival in Seattle that a new album was nearly done and would be coming out in the new year. Festival-goers were then treated to three of the new songs on the album. The rest of us will have to wait until January 18, 2011 when The King is Dead, the band’s 6th studio album, is released.

In the meantime, you can head to the website and find download links to the single “Down By The Water.”

In support of the new album the indie band will be touring beginning on January 25, 2011 in New York. They’re calling it the first leg and have dates listed through March 16th in London. Tickets are available for some shows and others are in pre-sale mode. Register with the official website to get access to pre-sales.

The Portland, Oregon based band will tour venues in North America before heading to Europe after a February 19th show in Portland.
